The Thames Skills Academy was delighted to join Tideway’s reception on 27 November 2024 at the House of Lords, to celebrate the benefits that the Tideway project has brought through its legacy and sustainability work.

The gathering of parliamentarians and representatives from across various environmental, skills and community projects, heard keynote addresses by Emma Hardy MP, Minister for Water and Flooding, Ruby McGregor-Smith CBE, Deputy Chair Tideway, Andy Mitchell, CEO Tideway and Katherine Riggs, CEO Thames Skills Academy.

Dr Katherine Riggs spoke about Tideway ‘s legacy through its creation and continued commitment to the Thames Skills Academy.  Highlighting raising safety standards on the Thames through bringing diverse talent into the industry through new national apprenticeships in boatmaster and marine engineering;  developing award-winning innovative training as the new norm for all major construction alongside water bodies; and introducing the first port-wide Continuous Professional Development programme (CPD) in the UK.

The importance of maintaining momentum for a safer, busier Thames - a beacon for other inland waterways to follow.
